CD vs Christian Malford 25
Jun 2011
The games started with the Mighty Down
fielding 8 players with Christian Malfords subs bench supplementing
the extra 3 needed to make the game look even. The visitors accepted
our offer to bat and proceeded to knock
their way to 100 off the first 18 overs. The procession was halted by
the arrival of our esteemed Chairman fresh
from dropping his bags at home on the way back from France ! JB's 4-32
off 8 hours with support from Matt Lowther
(1 - 34 from 8) and Merv Clancy (2-36 from 8) left the visitors on 197
for 7 off 35 overs. The ball was then handed to
13/14 year old George May who was still helping CD in the field. His
excellent 3 overs yielded 2 wickets for 11 runs
and Christian Malford finished the 40 overs on 223 for 9.
A good start was just what we needed and thats exactly what we did not
get ! 7 overs in and we were languishing
on 17 - 3 with the dismissals of Kev, Dougie and Zee German. Enter the
Flashing Blade Lingham and his
quickfire 36 from 25 balls pushed us on to 61 for 4. Next in was JB who
showed his class by knocking 55 from
37 deliveries including 4 sixes. His partnership of 63 with Matt Venn
(25) took us up to 146 for 6 off 27 overs and
an outside chance of getting a result. A solid 23 not out from Merv was
to count for nothing as he ran out of partners
and Charlton Down were finally dismissed for 186.
I would like to welcome and thank two Charlton Down virgins, Bob Perry
and Danny Roach who both performed
admirably on their first appearances for the club. Well done Fellas !
Thanks to all the other usual suspects for their contribution throughout
the day and evening. I think a new record
may have been set for the latest finish to apres cricket as I believe a
small group of hardy individuals stopped
drinking and hit the sack at 6.15am Saturday morning. Great effort all
round !!
