Charlton Downed by arch bishops‏

On the back of 3 consecutive victories the 2nds felt on a high going into this match vs the team they beat 3 weeks ago. Setting up camp in the Herrison oval away dressing room may have unsettled the team but after being put into bat Sid and Greg started off quite lively moving at 6 an over till both perished after about 6 overs. The Churches bowling was tight and this proved to continue as 1 after another the charlton down batsman struggled to get the bowling away. Only Matt Venn was able to manufacture some lusty blows to the leg side boundary before falling LBW after nearly middling the ball for 22. This meant that the target was set as 93 off 20 overs.
Tight bowling and good fielding was needed. Banjo started off excellently and was very accurate and meagre in his spell returning fantastic figures of (5-0-10-1) which is what was very much needed. Skip for the day Swampy and Matt Lovell were going for a few too many at the other end and so Steve changed the bowling round. This turned out to be a masterstroke. Rudo Ian "golden arm" Davies and John Clancy reduced the home side from 66-2 to 87-7, Davies and Merv taking 2 wickets each as well as a run out gained. Suddenly Churches were crumbling before our eyes. Unfortunately it seemed that the C.D. batting earlier on left us about 15-20 runs short and a straight drive over the top of a tight infield meant that Churches won the game with 2.3 overs to go.
So it was not to be on this occasion for the 2nds but another fantastic fighting performance really making a game of it and never letting their heads go down, 2 traits that have been ever present throughout the team all of this season and a reason why no opposition can ever rest easy at any point in any game.
