LEAGUE MATCH AWAY TO WINFRITH

THURSDAY MAY 31st.

Thursday saw us going East to Winfrith, on a day where cricket seemed a most unlikely prospect. The weather forecast was shocking; it was raining all over Dorset in the afternoon. Come along they said, it’s OK here we’ve got a stiff….. Southerly breeze drying the wicket!!

So off we trudged, but not too hopeful of play. Skip loses third toss in a row and luckily doesn’t have to make a decision. We field. The pitch is very wet and made of Plush Plasticine. We put it in the right areas (fine for numpty cricket jargon), well bar 18 wides, and skittle them out for 66. Mark taking 5 cheap wickets, and Rich once again as frugal as a night out with Rudo.

 Crack on then, but wait….. two wickets in an over leaving us 17 for 2 after 6 overs, and Skip batting a la Tavare .

Step forward Chris CD… takes as long to pronounce his name as it does him running a single, and with valuable support from Mark (dropped 3 times in an over) to bring us close.

Wait again….. (Mark and Chris take note this is what you are supposed to say if the run is uncertain) Mark is dismissed;

JB is run out by Chris and now calls himself Mike Lingham. 5 needed off the last over. Enter Chris’ will field where I feel like’ Rickard to despatch his first two balls for a 2 and a 4 to bring home the bacon.

A word of thanks to Winfrith; two really enjoyable games, great hospitality, even if the lager tastes like a wet dog, and a sterling effort to get the match on last night.
