The Ian Springer Garden Shed Memorial Match
CDCC
continued their fine run of form with a convincing win over Puddletown
Reserves.
However
flags were at half mast and many jokes abounded as news of a raid on the
CD allotments came through, the main casualty being Ian Springer’s much
admired garden shed.
Congrates
to Rudo for being a late replacement as James Franzen couldn’t tell his
Monday’s from his Thursday’s.
Anyway back to the action –
Skip lost
the toss but we were still inserted with Skip and Smithy blasting away
(well Smithy not so much really) and we were over 50 without loss in no
time at all. One Umpire was heard to remark ‘is that the legendary
Cozzens?’.
Skip then
promptly got out. Mark Homewood couldn’t match Smithy’s pace between the
wickets and was run out leaving Dr Alistair to get a few after Smithy
wafted one into the air.Proof that Elvis can’t play at Puddletown was
evident as he played across a straight one.We ended up with 121-6 –
pretty decent really.
Rich
Fagence and Mark always had the measure of the Puddletown batters, with
wickets falling regularly. Our fielding was also pretty hot with
gazelles Adam and Mark featuring regularly. Talking of older gazelles,
Elvis made up for the batting bit by hurling down the wicket to claim a
run out as well.Chris Rickard got a wicket or two and both Adam and Rudo
got in on the act with Adam showing some mastery of spin and guile.
Puddletown all out for about 70 and it was off to the Inn for All
Seasons to quaff a jar of too – or in Mr Springer’s case a
shed load!
