 CHARLTON DOWN V WINTON III

SUNDAY JULY 20TH

MERYCK PARK, BOURNEMOUTH

So as Sid takes a well earned break, it is left to the old stagers to carry on the good work.

Our next venture, a trip to the wilds of Bournemouth. Meryck park…mmmm…interesting. The ground is positioned in the middle of the park, and surrounded by thousands of foreign students, especially Swedish, playing football, beach volleyball, nude mud wrestling (sorry, got carried away)

Skip, as acting Skip, elects to bat on a dry and dusty surface.  Eric B and CCD play steadily and add 70 plus at around 3 an over. Tea is taken at 3.45 owing to something to do with the closing of the facility being used for such purpose.

CDCC continue to accumulate runs, with CCD appearing immovable, and the rest adding little cameos. CDCC end their innings on 215, with CCD scoring a very well judged 103 not out.

With 2 early successes from Zarak, the game seems to be in the bag; however the runs start flowing and Winton race to 56 off only 9 overs. During this time, we witness a most accomplished display of wicket keeping from Chairman Richard. Skip decides that the runs aren’t coming quick enough and brings himself on (is this a technical term?). The run rate slows and wickets start to fall, with Winton eventually being bowled out for 110, and Skip ending with figures of 7-23.

What a nice day!

message from web wag:

2 brilliant performances played down by skip in this report probabaly due to modesty?!!! congratulations and admiration for the batting performance of Snail and the bowling of Andy Skip Cossens (yes our big boy is a wicked leg spin bowler!)
