CDCC versus Cattistock Thursday 22nd May 08

Match 3 of the campaign, brought us our strongest challenge yet; Cattistock, who should have been promoted to Div 1 last year. Skip won the toss, batted, and failed again. Smithy and CCD valiantly tried to get the scoring going, but after 10 overs of very tidy bowling, only 30 runs had been scored. Smithy then fell to a sharp gully catch, which brought Mark to the crease, who then plundered 35 runs off 29 balls, including a number of 2’s and 3’s much to CCD’s chagrin.

CCD’s innings (6 scoring shots in 6 hours at the crease) ended in the last over and CDCC had amassed a reasonable of 84 off 16 overs.

Cattistock then set about the target with little difficulty and had scored a third of the runs required after 2 overs. Despite CDCC best efforts, and some very good fielding, Cattistock cantered to victory with 5 overs to spare.

A useful benchmark to see where CDCC have come; one big lesson to learn is how to keep scoreboard ticking over; far too many dot balls at this level of cricket. But as Fatboy Slim once said “we’ve come a long way, baby!”
