CHARLTON DOWN WIN IN THE MIDWEEK THE LEAGUE

CDCC versus Dewlish

Thursday 5 June 08

And so another Thursday and we welcome Dewlish to the Herrison Oval. Form says this should be a walk in the park for the visitors, having won all of their 4 games, and CDCC struggling to stop a 4th consecutive defeat.

Skip loses the toss and CDCC are inserted; Dewlish thinking that it will be like last time, roll them over and back home for tea and banjos! Not so fast!

Skip gets going for a change, and smacks a quick few runs, and after Mark flatters to deceive, in strides JB, a late replacement for Smithy who is stuck in Bristol (or between them, I’m not sure). JB proceeds to plonk the ball around Charlton Down, and although perishing just short of a jug, the momentum is clearly with CDCC. The chirping had stopped! A cameo from Mike Lingham, which included an exhibition of the new shot, now called the Lingham Drive, allowed CDCC to post a very respectable 125 off their 18 overs.

Dewlish responded positively but excellent bowling from all, especially Rich who snaffled a four-for, meant the result was never in doubt. Brilliant fielding from Adam, and Chris Rickard and an outstanding catch from the out of position Skip, saw CDCC home by 26 runs. One of those special evenings; the sun even came out! A big thanks to all; it shows we can compete at this level
