Great
Expectations -a tale of 2 teams
Well I thought a lovely
evening for a game of 20-20. After spending my week-end glued to the sky
TV's coverage of the world T 20 tournament my expectations were
high.....
On arriving at the ground
10 minutes after the team took to the crease I was informed that skip
had fallen first ball and Mark Homewood was already back at the
Pavilion. All this action in the first 3 overs I thought I was in for an
entertaining game.....
The Saga qualified opening
bat was perturbed by the wickets falling around him and decided to join
the parade back to the pavilion.
Doylee and Young Adam
tried hard to make some runs and made it in to double figures before
both of them joined the march by!
Enter Mr Marsh and Slapper
now I might be entertained. Mike did a hit and run times 2 before
striking a great ball only to be caught on the boundary and Steve fell
shortly after ...more to add to the procession back to pavilion
Perhaps Richie Burdett and
Jesus could put on a spectacle.. sadly after a couple of swipes they
were both out too.....
Ahhh Fagence tells me of
his prowess with the bat at the week-end(42 not out) and strides (no
limps) to face some balls. Yes at last a boundary.. and another
... wow batsman 10 will save the day with the bloke dressed in
surfer-dude gear surely that attire will put the bowler off. Greg pushes
a few singles and then disaster Fagence fails to make the 42 needed to
make this a competitive game.
Oh well surely we can
field well and still prevent them scoring 65 runs. Yes my expectations
were high.....Statistician at the ready...yes a run rate of
0.216666667...seems possible
Skip elects to bowl
Burdett and Marsh and there is a glimmer of hope when both take a
wicket. By the 5th over Cattistock need only 15 runs to win when
disaster struck..Burdett gets hit for 6 twice...That'll be entertaining
tomorrow at work I think.....Fagence fed up with retrieving the ball
contemplates taking up hedge trimming at the Cattistock ground.
The 6th over comes round,
skip thinks demon tactics, sets 5 in the slips and adopts a new
bowler....Is that Lingham rubbing his ball (non-plural)...Surely Lingham
can't stop this onslaught??? Of course this is my hero...expectation was
again high........They need only 1 run....runrate of 0.0119047691
recurring... could he hold it all together.? My heart pounds......up he
swaggers...delivers the ball...WIDE...GAME OVER. Shouts go up that
Lingham loses the game for CD.
What a performance! Oh
well at least it was sunny! To top it all skip pulls a groin muscle on
the way back to the car..guess the team should go join the Aussies in
Leicester and prepare thoroughly for the next match.
