Down versus Hazelbury Bryan
Thursday 18 June 09
After the
disappointment of losing in the cup it was back to league action against
table topping Hazelbury Bryan.
Skip handed over the captaincy to Old Smithy (good youth policy there
then!) due to his old age injury and was to be found "pint in hand" in
the role of scorer.
Hazelbury batted first and were well contained by wily old Fagence who
took wickets at regular intervals. JB, Marky Marky, Zim and Zarak did
their bit with the ball but we all conceded that we were a bit slack in
the field which could have saved about 15 runs. The exception was
Digital Sid sticking out his antennae (hand actually) and taking a
"splendiferous"
catch.
So a target of 115, not too bad, but we had to bat on a slow typical
village pitch and those Hazelbury country bumpkins don't 'arf know how
to bowl in their own back yard, especially when cheered on by half of
the
village (COME ON HAZ! - oww arr!).
We lose a couple of quick wickets and Old Smithy can't do the Galesque
bit on this occasion and we get well behind the run rate. Marky Marky
aided by Zim larrup a few but we end up 20 runs short.
Good game, well played Haz! but we do need to tighten up a bit with that
fieldingSausage and chips in the pub where good though, and when I left
the pub Digital was still talking fielding tactics and all that!
