Down versus Abbotsbury
Tuesday 2 June 2009
So for the 4th match of the season, and
off to Abbotsbury. Another beautiful evening at one of the most
picturesque grounds in Dorset.
Skip lost the toss again, and unsurprisingly
Abbotsbury chose to bat on a very flat wicket. In spite of very tidy
bowling from Rich F, backed up by an improved performance from Mark, the
first wicket did not fall until the 15th over with 105 runs
already scored. Steve Marsh enjoyed a 3 wicket haul on his debut and
when it seemed that we were looking at chasing around 140, some big
hitting from Abbotsbury pushed that to 166, with 24 coming off the final
over.
CDCC were never really in the hunt. Skip and Smithy
could not get a quick enough start with some very tight bowling; both
perishing when trying to move the score along. Vain attempts by Mark
(37), and Doyley (32*) saw us come up 44 runs short.
A disappointing evening and the performance a
little jaded, but at least the sun shone, even if it meant you couldn’t
see anything!
