Down versus Bere Regis
Wednesday May 6th 2009
And so to the start of another season, a trip to
Bere Regis. A new ground for us and against a team who were relegated
last year. The weather did its bit- turned cold and dark as soon as Mr
Lingham exposed himself and the kit bag to the elements.
Bere Regis elected to bat against a strong looking
(and smelling) CDCC side. Some tidy bowling by Rich F (1-17 off 5 overs)
was complimented by a pile of poo from Markie Mark (His words!); Ed came
on and took a few quick wickets which helped slow the scoring, and
Mark’s return proved worthwhile with some excellent bowling. JB bowled
steadily if a little unluckily (the ball kept going near Sid!). The
ground fielding was excellent, with Mike rolling back the years with his
agile close in fielding and Adam performing heroics on the boundary. Bere
Regis went for their shots and on a small ground 127 in 18 overs was a
challenging if gettable target.
Skip and Ian Doyle (suggestions for a nickname on a
post card please) then proceeded to whittle away at the target with what
looked like neat efficient running and nurdling, but in reality neither
of them could see bugger-all!). Skip finally succumbed as a result of
too many pies and being run out. This simply allowed Ed to come in and
showed that slapping is far and away an easier option; one of his sixes
disabling a parked car! No more wickets fell and CDCC eased home with
almost 3 overs to spare.
Big thanks to Sid, Adam, Mike, and Jesus who
didn’t bat and bowl, but as mentioned were lusty in the field!
