Charlton Down versus Winfrith

Thursday 28th may 09

Match 3 of the campaign pitched us against our old friends, Winfrith on another sun kissed evening at the Herrison Oval. Ed was experiencing contractions so the fielding was somewhat strengthened with the addition of Sid, otherwise the side remained unchanged.

Winfrith elected to bat, as Skip lost the third toss in a row, and immediately took a liking to Mark who got a bit of tap, and their first 50 was posted in the 6th over; some tidy if a little moody bowling from Rich and possibly the best spell in a mid week by JB hauled us back into the game, limiting the opponents to 130 in their 18 overs. Mention must be made of Chris T who will bowl better, and Adam whose one over cost 8 runs and yielded 3 wickets, and a stunning catch from Greg ‘I taught myself’ Sohawon. Talking of catches did I mention my 4???

The trusty opening old gits went off and posted a brisk 50 partnership before Skip popped one back to the bowler. ( I sorted out Mr Bundy out though, for a change!!!) There then followed 2 excellent partnerships perfectly paced (if a little asthmatic) between Messrs Smith and Butterworth, and the same and Doyley.

With three runs needed to win, the glory was left to Mr Lingham who basically didn’t feel like it, and copped a golden. CDCC did cross the line with an over to spare.

Great night, top chilli from Web wag, and onwards to Abbotsbury next week.
