Confidence boosting win or a case of Doyley in
the Coconut Shy!
Charlton Down beat Puddletown by 36 runs to give a boost
to their confidence, after the recent disappointing
evening league run.
Temporary Skip Smithy won the toss and elected to bat.
Ed started larupping balls to all corners and hit a
rapid 40, Marky Marky slapped a quick 21, but the rest
of us struggled a bit with 8 being a the popular score
for individual batsmen. Fortunately E. Xtras was in good
form with a solid 26 and Jesus hit a couple of 4's near
the end to get us to 137-7 - not bad, but it should have
been more. Sadly Zim's fascination with wearing a pink
hairband caused much comment, but did nothing for his
batting prowess.
The usually good Puddletown wicket was starting to play
variable bounce tricks and once Wily Fagance had
snaffled their opening bat and Ed had uprooted a couple
of sets of stumps Puddletown were always behind the
rate. A couple of "double overthrow incidents" in the
space of an over or so got Temporary Skip a little
heated with the troops, but steady bowling from Zarak
and Kim, aided by a direct hit run out from Ed meant we
cantered to the win.
Mention must be made here of Doyley's heroic efforts
behind the stumps. Having suffered the emotional trauma
being voted "D*ck of the Day" before play started due to
initially going to the wrong ground, he then stopped
most of the balls coming his way via the erratically
bouncing pitch and the variable throws coming in from
the fielders.

PS - and apologies from Temporary Skip for those that he
couldn't get into the team on this occasion - we need a
rugby team and then we could select 15!
