Charlton Down versus Puddletown

Sunday 12 July 2009

Charlton Down make Big waves by splashing the Puddles

After a topsy turvy few weeks results wise CD entertained top of the table Puddletown who gave us a good thrashing over at theirs. Sun looked like it would hold and Sid lost the toss…..again... but was put into bat……again.

After being all out for 87 in the reverse fixture CD had it al to do. Bradshaw(5) went early and Snail (16) after looking good soon followed. 38 – 2 was it all going to happen again, not if Doylie and Andy Cossens had their way. These 2 really took it to the Puddles attack peppering the boundary and the away skipper had to do something and brought himself and his brother on in a twin spin attack. Cos (38) kept attacking and in the end it was the wind that did for him. Not his bottom but a straight drive that was high and held up for a boundary catch. Sid joined doylie just after he passed his 50 and the 2 kept things ticking along against the 2 talented spinners. Sid (14) hung around long enough before Holdcroft came in and typically ran about 30 but only scored 3. Doylie sensed an impotus was needed and drove to mid off for a very much needed 71, his 2nd 50 in 2 matches. With the score now at 166-5 the CD procession started Holdcroft, Jesus (2) Mark Homewood and Kim Park both ducked and Zarak (4) all fell quickly to leave JP 0 N/O and the CD score which was looking very healthy at 174 All out

Collette’s Tea was superb and CD needed to tighten up in the field compared to recent weeks and from the off it looked good. JP (12-2-34-3) and Marky mark (12-2-32-3) started off fantastically backed up by excellent fielding from all round the ground. Bowling changes made room for Zarak (6-0-35-1) and Kim Park (12-1-35-1) and they kept the pressure on. In search of the Final wicket and max points Sid plumped for CCD and Andy C to try and get it but the ball wouldn’t go to hand (well it wouldn’t stay in the hand anyway.) and the League leaders slumped to only their 2nd defeat of the season. Puddletown were always behind the run rate and CD played very well. Sid was impressed with all the fielding and bowling and some of the batting as well. A genuinely All round Team performance got the result it deserved.

With Sid now away for 3 matches Snail takes over as captain and lets hope he can bring some consistency to the team who have beaten the 2 top teams and lost to 2 mid table teams in the last 4 performances.
