Charlton Down versus Winifrith

Tuesday 28 July 09

With 3 games to go, CDCC travelled to Winfrith, who had sadly already been relegated. Always a challenge this match, as you never know what a good score is. Winfrith won the toss and decided to bat, and had their usual bright start. Once again CDCC’s bowling was steady and backed up by some very enthusiastic fielding. I must mention Rich F, who has bowled consistently consistent at the start of each innings, and must surely be a contender for player of the season. Because of all this, Winfrith struggled to 83 off their 18 overs, with Kim pitching in with 3-11 at the death.

Skip thought it was time to have a bat, not having scored a League run since June 2nd! Smithy went early and it was left to Doyley and Skip to face some of the most hostile bowling seen this season. Once the two opening bowlers had finished, CDCC came home quite comfortably by 6 wickets and an over to spare.  Highlight of the evening apart from Zim’s cloth cap, was the sight of a fire engine traversing to ground to rescue some poor kid who’d had his head stuck in the swings. No, Mark had gone home by then.
