Charlton
Down versus Bournemouth 2nds
Sunday 21 June 2009
Nick Blasts Bournemouth as they lose
100% record
Charlton Down were on a roll with a few good
performances and moved p to 2nd in the table. Bournemouth
2nds were the visitors themselves lying 3rd in the table
owing to a 30 point clerical penalty and keen to make amends after
amassing 6 wins from 6 so far in the season. So both teams wanted the
win and only one could prevail.
Sid won the toss and chose to bat. Snail and Nick
took guard and from ball 1 Nick was attacking the visiting bowlers. CCD
played a short lived but defensive role before falling and Bradshaw took
on the supporting role as Nick kept the innings momentum moving.
Bradshaw did his job very well before falling for 13. During this period
Nick Roe had passed his 50 and was making his 2nd run at a
ton this year , falling 4 short 6 weeks previous. Doyle was next in and
held firm until Nick became the first to get his name on the honours
board this year. After that was done both pushed on, Doylie too much so
going for 19, JB came and went for 0. Next up Sid scratched around but
kept the score moving. Nicks excellent innings ended with him on 112.
Just what CD needed. Sid kept pushing the score towards and past 200. In
the final over the visiting captain bagged himself a hatrick with
Kev(4), Mark H (0) and Sid (32) the victims . Rudo and Rich B left the
not out batsmen. For the first time in a few weeks CD had batted through
the 45 overs and in the process pushed the score to 218.
Tea was up to its normal excellent standards and CD
took to the field in a confident mood. Mark and Zarak started the CD
defence, both were moving the ball in the air and both looked good. It
was Mark(8-1-22-1) making the early breakthrough but both were beating
the bat and unlucky that the ball wasn’t going to hand. Rich B and Jon B
took over and JB (7-0-34-2) took the next 2 wkts as Rich (5-0-32-0) kept
it tight at the other end. CD were keeping Bournemouth behind the run
rate but the visitors were starting to catch up. Snail played his part
by limping off as Wormgoor took aim at the visitors stumps and made an
immediate impact. The technically gifted Bournemouth bats struggled with
Rudo’s (4-0-19-3) variation 2 of them holing out pulling to cow corner
with JB taking the catches, and excellent stump work from Nick taking
the opening bat. With the fielders backing up the bowlers Jesus earned a
great run out and it was left to Zarak (8.4-0-33-2) to come back on and
clean up the tail.
From a Sunday skip's point of view CD were much
better in the field than recent weeks really backing up the bowlers and
a superb team effort with both bat and ball led us to a 51 run victory.
Sunday Skip was also a little disappointed with the reaction of the away
team. Everyone loses sometime and the art of doing so gracefully rather
than whining is one maybe the young talented Bournemouth team need to
take on board. Sometimes you gotta get ugly to win boys. Well done CD
top stuff.
