CD win in final bow of the season vs pokesdown willows
And so to the final game of the season. A slim chance of 3rd place in
the league was up for grabs after much maths from many people but the
trip to Pokesdown wasn't going to be easy. The opposition needed a win
to move themselves out of relegation and the pitch was.......well it was
kings park. Sid back from his honeymoon sabbatical duely lost the toss
and Cd were inserted. Zim went 4th ball and a damp pitch that looked
like it was going to be hard graft needed to play on. A few heavy
showers broke up the first hour of play but Doylie and Cuz battled to
see of the opening tidy bowlers before cuz went. JB turned up just in
time to smash 59 off the change bowlers and nick flicked a full bunger
to the deep mid wicket boundary. Through all this Doylie played his
normal accumulating roll and had cruised past 50 and in the last 7 overs
ran and ran and ran and eventually didn't run a 2 quick enough being run
out for another superb 89. Sid, Kim and Mark just flashed the bat and
helped move the score along to 189-6 at tea. Nick was to be found under
a bench still grumbling about his shot choice.
JP and kim oppened the bowling and after a strong start the
home side the wickets started to fall. JP took 2 in 2 balls and Kim
picked up his wicket courtesy of a superb catch a close mid wicket by
"magic" Matt Lowther. Homewood came on at the change and took 1 but
should have had 3 after 2 blatant LBW decisions were turned down. (These
were both out, even the umpire later said so but he wasn't going to give
them as he felt aggrieved over decisions off his own bowling.......Twat)
The slow bowlers were brought on and finished up the rest of the batting
, Doylie and Jones took 2 each and Cossens had the final batsman stumped
leaving pokesdown all out for 93.
Max points for Charlton Down again doing all they could but
other results meant a solid 4th place in the league this year. The
defeat however left pokesdowns hope of avoiding the bottom 2 much like
the outfield, Patchy at best and basically nothing left.
