Plush versus CDCC   (friendly)

Sunday 21st September 08

.....And so to the final match of the season at Plush.....

So much has been said of the famous ground at Plush; only times I’ve previously played there, it was more like Splash!

But there we were, hot footing it from the AGM, three short, to play in the most idyllic of surroundings. Green fields and trees bedappled in early autumn sunshine. The sound of tractors, pheasants, buzzards and leather on willow….. or more appropriately for us, leather on ash (to those uninitiated wot stumps are made from!!!).

Skip elects to bat in a 35 over per side match, and we are soon in trouble as Eric fails to make his ground, closely followed by the cross batted Rudo swiping at one of the buzzards, and then engaging in a deal of chuntering about some 12 year old not knowing his LBW rule!

Chris T cannot hang around for long, so it is left to James P and CCD to steady things somewhat.

The (earlier mentioned) lad then does CCD in the flight, and with JP then succumbing it is left to Skip, Z and Badar to rally things around. Plush kindly allow us to send one of the chaps in again, so Rudo manages to last a little longer than last time.

170 runs are set, but before the reply begins, we are treated to a wonderful tea, with JUGS of Orange, and Cucumber & Marmite Sandwiches. This is England!!!

The Afzaals open the bowling, but Plush get off to a good start. Wickets do fall at regular intervals, but in spite of (once again) JPs excellent bowling, and CCDs adept keeping, Plush reach their target with a couple of overs to spare.

So it’s off to the Piddle for a pint of Piddle, and other unmentionables!!

Thanks for a great season lads, and see you next year.
